During 2003, the Swedish Hotel and Restaurant Association, SHR started a homogenous classification of its member hotels. The classification uses a 1-5 star rating where each participating hotel is homogeneously evaluated at a hotel inspection carried out each year where 130 different criteria are applied. All classified hotels will receive a blue sign with a yellow H and the number of stars awarded to be displayed at the entrance of the hotel.
The Swedish classification system will initially comprise two different categories of hotel:
Hotel This category comprises hotels serving food over and above breakfast.
From one to five stars.
Hotel Garni This group comprises hotels serving breakfast only. The highest rating in this category is four stars.
For more information about the Swedish Hotel Classification system including all criteria used and an updated listing over all classified hotels, please visit www.hotelsinsweden.com.
There are a total of around 130 Swedish criteria and they apply both to public areas and to the actual hotel rooms. In principle, the lowest standard shall determine the classification. The criteria shall reflect the Swedish hotel markets development and customers requirements. The criteria are subject to annual review.
